Slipknot — Debut (Lemon)
Limited Lemon Yellow Vinyl LP Pressing
Slipknot’s eponymous debut was originally released on June 29, 1999, following a demo containing a few of the songs that had previously been released in 1998. Slipknot is the only album to feature original guitarist Josh Brainard, who left at the end of recording in late 1998. Jim Root, who recorded two tracks at that point, appeared full time on subsequent albums.
Spanning several genres, the album peaked at #51 on the Billboard 200. It has since been certified double platinum, making it the band’s best-selling. Jon Hotten of Classic Rock magazine described it as a “scary, genre-busting debut” that was a “clever synthesis of a slasher movie aesthetics with some grindingly heavy metal.” In 2021, it was named one of the 20 best metal albums of 1999 by Metal Hammer magazine.
